This injectable treatment uses a substance — botulinum toxin type A — a processed protein produced by the microbe Clostridium botulinum. This treatment aims to address and eliminate expression wrinkles, that is, the dynamic wrinkles of the upper third of the face. The use of botulinum toxin in dermatology has been increasing rapidly in recent times and is now considered the most common aesthetic procedure.
Indeed, the passage of time, each person’s expressiveness, and chronic exposure to the sun are the main causes of the formation of expression lines on the face. By targeting specific areas of the face, this treatment helps us erase expression wrinkles, providing a more rested appearance without losing naturalness. The injection sites are the forehead, the glabellar (between the eyebrows), and around the eyes in the well-known “crow’s feet”. The treatment is painless and lasts about 15 minutes, while the results last up to 6 months.
Particular care should be taken immediately after treatment, as one should not exercise and should not lie down for a few hours, and finally must not use a hairdryer or sunbathe for 24–48 hours.
The injectable treatment is also used for hyperhidrosis that occurs in areas such as the underarms, palms, and soles, by blocking the sweat glands and improving this condition that is bothersome for many.
